Cognitive-functional linguistics

Cognitive-functional approaches to grammar are particularly concerned with the meaning of linguistic structures, taking into account their cognitive and social context. Cognitive approaches focus in particular on the general cognitive principles and mechanisms underlying language and its use. Functional approaches to language, on the other hand, are more concerned with the principles of language use and with language as a means of communication and interaction.
