Developmental linguistics

Research in the area of developmental linguistics is concerned with, amongst others, how monolingual and bilingual/multilingual children and adults acquire their first and subsequent languages, how they progress over time, and which factors determine (un)successful acquisition. We also study the effect a second language can have on the first, i.e. when aspects of the native language appear to be ‘lost’. We study all aspects of linguistic development, including vocabulary learning, syntax, pronunciation, and sentence processing.
